| Reiki (pronounced Ray' Key) is a Japanese word meaning universal life force. It is the natural state of all living things, and the practice of Reiki restores and balances our body, mind and spirit. Reiki works with the subtle energy of the body's electromagnetic field in harmony with all the systems of the body, principally the endocrine system.
Reiki energy is transmitted through a practitioner's hands placed over the energy centers, or chakras, throughout the body. The treatment is a non-invasive healing usually lasting one hour in a quiet, relaxed setting. The clients draw Reiki into themselves with their own inherent wisdom. They do not have to believe in Reiki in order for it to work; their only job is to relax. The practitioner is merely the conduit for this powerful healing energy and is used solely for the recipient's highest good.
Reiki will replenish one's life force, bringing balance to all aspects of the being. It is never meant to replace medical treatment. Reiki can be used to energize, enhance meditation, decrease pain and speed recovery. Thousands of nurses across America have been trained in Reiki to use on their patients, particularly those with cancer. Reiki can be beneficial to the following:
• Decreases insomnia • Alleviates a migraine or headache • Reduces stress • Works as a complementary therapy for any acute or chronic illness • Aids in recovery from surgery or illness • Creates inner balance, clarity and vitality
